Aang knew what he had to do. He erected stone walls around himself and started meditating. He needed to release his last chakra and enter the Avatar State - there was too much at risk and the enemy was too numerous. Zuko assaulted the young Avatar's personal stone wall with increasingly powerful fire blasts, while his sister Azara was trying to incapacitate Aya.
Aang's walls suddenly burst around him - his eyes and tattoos were glowing a brilliant white, as he levitated about a foot off the ground. Wind, rocks, flames and small streams of water gathered around him and began orbiting the fully-realized Avatar.
"Oh, no..." Azara muttered as she saw Aang, quickly encasing Aya in a wall of fire and smoke, hoping to delay her, while Aang began assaulting her brother. Zuko desperately deflected Aang's attacks, but he had little chance against him in his current state. The Avatar's hand began sparking - small arcs of lightning were moving in and out of his palm and fingers, as he pointed them at Zuko.
A quiet gasp echoed throughout the entire cavern. A small, barely audible sound, yet it made everyone present go dead silent.
Aang's eyes and tattoos lost their light as he looked down and saw a blade sticking out from his stomach.
"I'm so sorry..." Azara whispered as she held the blade firmly with one hand and hugged Aang from behind with the other, stopping him from falling and helping to the ground. "I am so... so sorry." she repeated, her eyes watering "You gave me no choice... I couldn't let you kill my brother."
Azara's eyes suddenly shot open in surprise and excruciating pain, her body contorting into an unnatural, mangled position. A loud snap came from her left arm, causing a piercing shriek of pain to escape from the Fire Princess' mouth.
"Die!" Aya shouted, tears flowing down her face "Die, die, die, die...!" she repeated over and over, as if possessed, Azara's body contorting even more.
Seeing this, Zuko sent a fireball straight at Aya, who barely managed to get out of the way in time, dropping Azara on the ground, shivering and crying. The rest of the Fire Soldiers started attacking her, as well, forcing her to start defending herself and keeping her away from Azara.
Just then, Iroh arrived and was shocked at what he saw. Not only did his nephew betray him in the worst possible moment, but the Avatar lay unmoving with the dagger he had given to Zuko many years ago sticking out from his back and his beloved niece was curled in a bloody ball on the ground, her left elbow hanging unnaturally to the side. There was no time to think - he didn't know if Aang was dead yet, so he did the only thing he could to assist his survival. Iroh began attacking his nephew and the other soldiers, then yelled out to Aya "Get the Avatar and run, girl! I'll hold them off!"
Aya saw an opening and waterbent a large pool of water to get herself and Aang out of the cavern. Once they were safely out and on Appa, she examined the wound. The dagger was apparently very hot when she stabbed him, since the wound looked burned and was barely bleeding even after she removed the blade. Aya took out the flask of water from the Northern Water Shrine and bent it, trying her best to heal Aang's gaping stab wound. After the wound closed, she took the dagger and stared intently at it, while hold Aang with her other arm, imagining herself stabbing Azara with the same dagger over and over again.
This was not over. Not until Azara lay bleeding on the ground.
